Social Print Lab (SPL) is an ongoing project at The University of California, Santa Barbara, bringing interdisciplinary groups of students, experts, and faculty together to create innovative public art exhibitions and projects centered around the process and world of print media.
SPL's inaugural project is Seeping Into History: Oil Touches Everything, which has culminated in a site-specific multimedia installation on Stearn's Wharf in downtown Santa Barbara, on view from March 5 to March 19, 2022. Seeping Into History examines the role petroleum has played in the history of the local area and its continual, complex interrelation with our lives.
